GOSPEL science head wins prestigious award

Professor Julian Gardner, Chair of the GOSPEL Scientific Council and Professor of Electronic Engineering at Warwick University, this week won a prestigious award from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Europe’s largest professional society for engineers.

Prof Gardner won the JJ Thomson Medal for Achievements in Electronics for his pioneering work in artificial olfaction and the electronic nose, which has enabled major advances in the electrochemical detection of pollutants, gases and diseases.

“Professor Gardner is a pioneer in artificial olfaction, and his guidance has helped our multidisciplinary network make significant advances,” said Dr Udo Weimar, GOSPEL project leader.

The award was presented on Tuesday November 13 as part of the Achievement Awards of the IET’s prestigious Ambition and Achievement Awards at a ceremony in London.

The Achievement Awards programme recognises and rewards excellence in individuals in engineering and technology.
